چکیده
Abstract Claviceps purpurea causing ergot maintains to be a problem in commercial cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS)-based hybrid rye growing. The fungal spores compete with pollen during flowering and incidence is reduced highly pollen-shedding stands. This study was carried out identify maternal differences infection the absence of pollen. Ten male-sterile single crosses were tested by needle spray inoculation kept unfertilized up four field sites (Germany, Austria) three greenhouse experiments, respectively, two years. A medium high correlation observed between (needle inoculation) (spray experiments. environments (=location × year combinations) differed their severity incidence. Significant ( P ? 0.05) genotypic genotype environment interaction variances detected for both test systems traits. cross K_4 showed significantly lower averaged across all environments, thus being more resilient than other genotypes. In conclusion, are suitable testing materials, several (locations, years) definitely necessary. Selection specific females might give potential further reducing contamination future. frequency such genotypes within larger breeding populations needs analyzed.

Towards a whole-genome sequence for rye (Secale cereale L.).
We report on a whole-genome draft sequence of rye (Secale cereale L.). Rye is a diploid Triticeae species closely related to wheat and barley, and an important crop for food and feed in Central and Eastern Europe. Through whole-genome shotgun sequencing of the 7.9-Gbp genome of the winter rye inbred line Lo7 we obtained a de novo assembly represented by 1.29 million scaffolds covering a total l...

متن کاملReaction of Global Collection of Rye (Secale cereale L.) to Tan Spot and Pyrenophora tritici-repentis Races in South Dakota
Rye (Secale cereale L.) serves as an alternative host of Pyrenophora tritici-repentis (PTR) the cause of tan spot on wheat. Rye is cultivated as a forage or cover crop and overlaps with a significant portion of wheat acreage in the U.S. northern Great Plains; however, it is not known whether the rye crop influences the evolution of PTR races. We evaluated a global collection of 211 rye accessio...
متن کاملCultivar and year-to-year variation of phytosterol content in rye (Secale cereale L.).
Intake of phytosterols (and -stanols) has been shown to decrease the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and thus protect against development of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, studies on the cultivar and year-to-year variation in phytosterol content in rye grains have been performed. The phytosterol content and composition of different rye cultivars, grown under identical conditio...
متن کاملThe Ph1 locus from wheat controls meiotic chromosome pairing in autotetraploid rye (Secale cereale L.).
The Ph1 locus on chromosome 5B enforces strictly bivalent pairing in polyploid wheat, but the exact mechanism of its action remains unknown. Pairing restriction involves not only wheat homoeologues and all alien introgressions but also differentiated homologues. In this study we show that chromosome 5B with its Ph1 locus also controls chromosome pairing in autotetraploid rye by apparently restr...
